RTI Bachao Campaign gets support from Professionals Congress in Mumbai

Past few years have witnessed serious roadblocks in the smooth implementation of the RTI Act. To highlight the various issues regarding this landmark Act, AIPC Maharashtra's Mumbai East Chapter organised an Interactive session on 5th May at YB Chavan Center in Mumbai. Eminent RTI Activists Shailesh Gandhi and Anil Galgali who have been spear heading the RTI movement in Mumbai as well as in the Country were part of the panel discussion that was moderated by Sanjay Jha, INC spokesperson and President of AIPC Maharashtra. 

The audience comprising of professionals from various fields and RTI activists were treated to an intense and engaging conversation.The panelists Shailesh Gandhi and Anil Galgali also answered various questions from the audience concerning ineffective Information Commissions, delays in disposing appeals, inclusion of Private sector and Political parties in the ambit of RTI etc .

Mr Gandhi was critical about the lack of political will to execute such an empowering law for transparency in governance. He called upon the audience to realise the power of the individual and take initiative so that this tool is not weakened by vested interests.

Mr Galgali advised the activists on what measures they should take in case they receive threats for filing RTI involving those in powerful positions.He laid stress on the role of media to eliminate such threats by bringing this into public.

Right to Information was the fifth in a series of interactive topics that AIPC Maharashtra has taken up. Earlier discussions have been held on women empowerment, state of the nation, urban governance, etc. All India Professionals Congress is a department of AICC (All India Congress Committee) under the Chairmanship of Dr. Shashi Tharoor. Milind Deora is the Dy. Chairman & Regional Co-Coordinator (West). The platform is to attract the professionals to engage in active politics and contribute towards Nation building.
