RBI has refused to make public the amount of currency notes supplied to banks after demonitisation

RTI Activist Anil Galgali had sought data on amount of notes given to each individual bank by RBI. In its reply RBI had cited section 8(1)(g) in The Right To Information Act, 2005 for its inability to share this data. Interestingly, This section bars disclosure on the following counts- "Information, the disclosure of which would endanger the life or physical safety of any person or identify the source of information or assistance given in confidence for law enforcement or security purposes;" Galgali now challenge the order to RBI and file the First Appeal.

RTI Activist Anil Galgali wants to know the amount of currency notes supplied to the bank's after demonitisation. The Public Information Officer, Mr P Vijay Kumar refuse Galgali request and claim that this information not be supply under the section 8(1) (g) of RTI Act 2005. Anil Galgali file first appeal at Dr Deepali Pant Joshi, First Appleate Officer of RBI. Anil Galgali said, This illogical reasoning has left me bewildered. How on Earth, is the detail of bank notes now probably distributed among the bank's going to "endanger" any person or "identify the source" of information. I file an appeal against this illogical & unreasonable response, not expected from the apex bank of the country.

After the demonitisation, RBI supply the large amount to Private bank instead of Nationalise Government Bank. It's effect upon common man and so many are arrested with new ₹ 2000 currency, said Galgali.
