Mumbai University VC 'Globe Trotter'

Vice Chancellor of University of Mumbai Dr Sanjay Deshmukh seems to have earned the reputation of a 'Globe Trotter'. Deshmukh has been on official foreign trip as many as five times, during the last 10 months, An inquiry by RTI Activist Anil Galgali revealed.
RTI Activist Anil Galgali had sought information on foreign jaunts of Vice Chancellors of Universities in Maharashtra.  In a first attempt Galgali not get fully information. He appeal to the  Deputy Secretary Parimal Singh then only get complete information. Governer's Secretary Office Education Department trying to hide specially Dr Deshmukh information, blame Anil Galgali. As many as 27 international tours of VC's of the state were officially sanctioned during the last 4 years, Galgali was informed by Under Secretary P P lubal.
Dr Sanjay Deshmukh of Mumbai University and Mahatma Phule Pune University V.C- Dr W.N. Gade have 5 foreign tours each on their name. In fact, Moscow trip of Gade failed to receive official sanction from Office of Governer of Maharashtra, In his capacity as De-facto Chancellor of the Universities in the state. Maharashtra Governor has sanctioned a total of 27 official foreign tours of Vice Chancellors in last 4 years.
Dr Deshmukh, along with Dr Gade, now tops the chart of foreign touring Vice Chancellors of Maharashtra. Dr Sanjay Deshmukh has had trips to Israel, Moscow, China, Germany and South Korea. With his Moscow trip not accorded official sanction, Gade has officially toured USA, China, Germany-Sweden, Canada-USA & London. While, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University V.C. In fact, Till recently Vice Chancellors could go o
nly on one foreign tour in a year, limiting their tour to 20 days during their 5 year tenure. Joint Board of Vice Chancellors under chairmanship of Governor had framed this rule in 3rd September 2013. This rule was recently relaxed from 20 days to 50 days on recommendations of this board.
Savitribai Phule Pune University V.C. Gade's foreign tours surpassed even these extended days. His 5 tours were held in a period of Three and half years, For which he took 51 days. As a result his October 2015 tour to Moscow was not sanctioned by the Chancellor.

Anil Galgali has demanded that the foreign tours of Vice Chancellors be curtailed to give them time to focus on problems of their respective Universities. Previous limit of 20 days be imposed again and information of foreign trip of University Officials be uploaded on internet.
