More than half posts in SPPL vacant

'Shivshahi Punarvasan Prakalp Limited' (SPPL) - Maharashtra Government's agency responsible for rehabilitation of all project-affected people across Mumbai- is itself in dire need of the Rehabilitation! 56 percent posts of this Government incorporated company have not been filled up, An inquiry by RTI Activist Anil Galgali revealed.

SPPL was incorporated as a Limited company on 25th September 1998, during the last stint of then Shivsena-BJP Government. The purpose was to make available proper houses for those displaced by ongoing development projects. Few lac such houses were to be used in Slum Rehabilitation schemes as transit houses -Some thing that didn't materialized. Thousands of project displaced families did get tenements in SPPL buildings at Mankhurd & other places.

At present, SPPL shows 73 posts on its record, out of these only 32 posts have been filled and 41 remain vacant. Posts that are yet to be filled include Joint Managing Director, Surveyor, Superintendent, Accountant, Public Relation Officer, Deputy Chief Engineer, Asst. Engineer, Jr. Engineer, Technical Assistant, Architect, Social Welfare Officer, Selection grade Steno and Xerox operator. Public Information officer and Assistant Manager (Administration) Sugandha has shared details of these vacancies. Out of 11 posts of Deputy Social Officer only 4 have been filled. Whereas, All 4 posts of stenos are vacant. Out of 3 posts of General Manager, 2 are awaiting proper appointment.

Anil Galgali had also sought information about officials working on contract or on deputation for SPPL. Such information has not been collated, He was told.
Recent releases reveal that State Government intends to give loan to builders for construction of houses under SPPL. Also, There is a move to sell SPPL made low cost houses to public through open lottery. But this Government body lacks the manpower to undertake these responsibilities. Galgali has written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Housing Minister Prakash Mehta to promptly fill up vacancies of SPPL for early fulfillment of dream of affordable houses in Mumbai.
